Recording Social Workers - A guide for parents and professionals

Although this guide is relating to parents and social workers in children and families work, it can be applied to various setting where someone is wanting to record an interaction.

Written by the Transparency Project, this provides guidance for parents and social worker on recordings being made of conversations or meetings. It's helpful for looking at why parents may want to make recordings of social workers.

Covertly recorded meetings or conversations can make social workers feel uncomfortable, as it generally would for anybody, no matter what the setting. Nevertheless, it is easy to see why parents may want to record conversations or meetings. Social workers don't "record" meetings in this way, but as any social worker will tell you, everything has to be documented and entered onto a system. If we are "recording" things in this way, it doesn't seem unreasonable for parents to want to make recordings as well.
